How to add an M3U playlist in Megacubo
It takes four steps, and the application does the hard part: you give it the address or the file, it reads it and shows the channels. The playlist is always yours — Megacubo ships with no channel and no ready-made playlist. If you do not have one yet, the section below covers the three honest ways of getting one.
Before you start
- The address of the playlist — the M3U or M3U8 link your provider or the community gave you
- Or the file — a
.m3ufile stored on the device, in UTF-8, starting with#EXTM3U - The application installed — if it is not yet, start by installing on your system
Step by step
- Open My Lists — the section where the playlists you already added live.
- Choose Add List — the option to include a new playlist.
- Enter the address or the file — paste the address of the M3U playlist, or point to the path of the
.m3ufile on your device. - Confirm and let it read — the application reads the playlist and shows the channels available. From there on they appear on the home screen and in the search.
Steps checked on 2026-09-25 in the project's documentation (Using IPTV Lists). The interface can change between versions; the release notes show what changed in the current one.
If you do not have a playlist yet
Megacubo does not provide playlists, channels or subscriptions — and that is not a technical limitation, it is the project's position. The three legitimate ways to get to a playlist:
- Your own private playlist — from a provider you already pay, or from a server you run yourself
- Community playlists — community mode loads playlists shared by other users in the same region
- Public sources — channels and radios that broadcasters themselves distribute online, in public stream directories
The application asks whether you want to share your playlist only when the address carries no username and password, and it never shares without your answer. One practical consequence is worth knowing before you accept: playlists that do not allow simultaneous connections can have their access restricted when several people use them at the same time.
Rename, reload or remove
It all happens in the same section: in My Lists, press and hold (or right-click) on the playlist to open its options — rename it, reload it from the original address, or remove it. Reload is what you use when the provider has added channels: the address stays the same, but the content changed.
What usually goes wrong
- The address is wrong or expired — test it in the browser: if it does not open a text starting with
#EXTM3U, the application will not be able to read it either - The provider limits simultaneous connections — the playlist works, but drops when someone else (or another of your devices) uses the same one
- The file is not in UTF-8 — channel names come out with the wrong characters
- The playlist went stale — channels leave the air without warning; reloading the playlist, or switching transmission with the circular-arrows icon, is the first test
If none of that helps, the support page has the full path: the M3U playlist does not load.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a playlist to use Megacubo?
Yes. The application ships with no playlist and no channel: without one added it has nothing to play. You can bring your own, import a local file or take part in community mode, which loads playlists shared by other users in your region.
Can I add the playlist file instead of the address?
Yes. When adding, the field takes either the address of the playlist or the path of a .m3u file stored on the device. The file must start with the #EXTM3U line and be in UTF-8 for accented characters to come out right.
Does adding a playlist share it with other people?
Only with your consent, and only when the address carries no username and password. In that case the application asks whether you want to share; the shared playlist is anonymous and you can turn sharing off whenever you want.
