How to install Megacubo on Linux
On Linux there is no single installer, and that is a decision rather than a gap: the application is published as AppImage, Snap and Flatpak, for x64 and ARM64, and you pick the format that fits your system. It takes four steps, and the shortest of them is a single command.
Requirements and what changes on Linux are on the platform page.
Step by step
- Choose the format and the architecture — AppImage runs without installing; Snap and Flatpak integrate with the system's package manager. There are packages for x64 and ARM64.
- Download the file — from the project's releases page.
- Make it executable and run it — for AppImage, mark the file as executable and open it; for Snap or Flatpak, use the manager's command.
- Or install through the official script —
wget -qO- https://megacubo.tv/install.sh | bash, which installs from the same domain as the download. The uninstaller isuninstall.sh, in the same place.
Steps checked on 2026-09-25 in the project's documentation (Installation), and aligned with our Linux page. Installation script: megacubo.tv/install.sh.
What changes in each format
| Format | How it installs | How it updates |
|---|---|---|
| AppImage | A single file, no installation: mark it executable and open it | By downloading the new release |
| Snap | Through the system's package manager, with the file published in the releases | Through Snap itself |
| Flatpak | Through the system's package manager, with the file published in the releases | Through Flatpak itself |
| Script | One command, in the terminal, from megacubo.tv/install.sh | By running the script again; the uninstaller is uninstall.sh |
What usually goes wrong
- The AppImage does not open — the executable permission is missing: mark the file as executable in the file's properties
- Limited network or file access — Snap and Flatpak sandbox the application by default and may deny access to the folder where your playlists are; adjust the package's permissions if that is the case
- Channels stuttering on a modest device — low-end device mode, in the performance options, reduces animations and how many playlists and guides are loaded
- An update that never arrives — AppImage does not update itself: download the new release. The application tells you when a new version is out
Stuttering and dropping during playback has its own page: the channel stutters or drops.
Frequently asked questions
Which format should I choose on Linux?
If you just want to run the application, use AppImage: it is a single file, with no installation and no dependency on the package manager. Snap and Flatpak integrate better with the system and with your package manager's updates, and are the choice of whoever already uses one of them.
Is Megacubo updated by the package manager?
It depends on the format. AppImage is updated by downloading the new release, the same way the application is obtained. Snap and Flatpak follow the system's package manager, and the official script installs into the user's folder. The release notes show which publication is current.
How do I uninstall it?
If you installed through the script, the project publishes the uninstaller on the same domain: megacubo.tv/uninstall.sh. If you installed as an AppImage, just delete the file; through Snap or Flatpak, use the removal command of the package manager itself.
