Megacubo for Linux — AppImage, Snap or Flatpak
On Linux, Megacubo is distributed per release, in three formats: AppImage, Snap and Flatpak, for x64 and ARM64. There is no installer: you download the package for your architecture and run it — the AppImage is a single file, with no installation.
How to install
- Choose the format — the project's releases have AppImage, Snap and Flatpak, for x64 and ARM64; the AppImage is the simplest, because it runs without installing
- Download the package for your architecture — check whether your system is x64 or ARM64 and download the matching file from the releases page
- Mark it executable and run it — for the AppImage, make the file executable and open it; for Snap or Flatpak, use your manager's command. There is also an install script published on the official site
- Add your playlist — in the IPTV Lists shortcut, enter the URL or the M3U file of your channel playlist
The install script lives at megacubo.tv/install.sh — the same domain as the official download.

What changes on Linux
No installer
The app arrives as a package per release; updating is a new download, or your manager's command
x64 and ARM64
There is a package for both architectures, including on ARM machines
Recording and schedules
On the desktop, recording streams and scheduling recordings saves the file locally
Miniplayer
The stream stays on top of your other windows, in its own strip of the screen
Recording, VOD downloads, schedules and casting to TV are part of the optional Premium license.
When Megacubo is not the best choice
- To open a video file on your computer — VLC, very likely already in your distribution, is more direct
- For a media centre with add-ons and a local library — Kodi is the best-known option; Megacubo is focused on live TV, radio and M3U playlists
The other platforms are in Platforms, with their own instructions for Windows, macOS and Android TV.
Frequently asked questions
AppImage, Snap or Flatpak — which should I pick?
If you just want to run the app, use the AppImage: it is a single file, with no installation. Snap and Flatpak integrate better with the system and with your manager's updates, for those who already use one of them.
Is Megacubo in my distribution's repositories?
No. The packages are published in the project's releases, not in the official repositories of the distributions; the version available there is always the one the project published.
How do I update Megacubo on Linux?
By downloading the package of the new version from the releases, or through the Snap or Flatpak update command, if you used one of those. On Linux the app does not have the automatic updater that comes with the Windows installer.
